Ievan Polkka! Wave your "Stick" wildly

Leek Spinning Orihime Inoue from Bleach
Leek Spinning Orihime Inoue
If you are not living under the rock like a starfish, you probably would have seen this Leek Spinning Loituma Girl. If not click on the link and start staring at Orihime Inoue from the Bleach Anime spins her stick. They even provide you with a timer at the bottom...

For some reason this "leek spinning" traditional folk song from Finland became viral in 2006. It all started with a Russian blogger's upload. And I noticed alot of Chinese(china) Tv Shows always like to use this song...

The melody of Ievan Polkka was first written back in the 1800 or maybe even eariler. And the Lyrical version of this folk song was only introduced first in the early 1930s. However the vocals you heard in Leek Spinning Loop are all gibberish (scat singing).

After much digging and searching though the net I  still cant find the true reason behind the making of this mashup.. Perhaps some of you might know the true meaning of it? (write in the comments if you know)

Anyway here is the original Loituma quartet singing Ievan Polkka

Not Enough ? More... Leek Swinging...
Since this meme is so popular Vocaloid Hatsune Miku also did a cover of it...
